SERVING GOD THROUGH MINISTRY - Exercising Your Spiritual Gifts
Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
1 Corinthians 12:4-7
Sunday School
This ministry is the primary teaching service of the church. Our church school meets every Sunday morning at 9:30 AM for the purpose of studying the Word of God through the bible. We offer classes in Men's Bible study, Women's Bible Study, What We Believe Foundational "for new members", youth, Teens, Kindergarten, Children and Single's bible study.
Wednesday Night Bible Study
This ministry is a blessing to our church. Each Wednesday night the church gathers at 7:00 pm for prayer meeting, praise, worship and bible study. The emphasis here is on developing your prayer life. We encourage every family and every member to take time during the mid week hour to pray and study the bible.
In addition to our regularly scheduled Sunday School and Wednesday evening bible study, below is a list of other ministries that are functioning at New Salem.
Angels of Mercy
This ministry provides Christmas gifts to children whose parents are incarcerated.
Adult and Youth Ushers

Awana
Get Ready, Get Ready! Awana has come to New Salem! This is a high energy Children and Youth Ministry that meets on Wednesday at 7:00 PM in the Jackson/Saunders Fellowship Hall. This is a historic beginning in our church which will enhance the youth ministry in a great way. Therefore, we ask every parent, grandparent and guardian to put forth a special effort to have our children and youth to attend these meetings of Awana.
For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spiritis; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body,
being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:8-12

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.
Deuteronomy 8:3

If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
And if they were all one member, where were the body? But now are they many members, yet but one body. And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
1 Corinthians 12:17-22

Greeters
This ministry's primary purpose is to extend to newcomers as well as members a personal expression of Christian warmth and welcome. It starts in the foyer and extends to the parking lot. This ministry is here to make sure that all people feel welcomed when they enter the church doors for we greet them with a friendly smile, heartfelt handshakes and hugs before entering the sanctuary so that they will be ready to worship and praise the Lord.

That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honored,

But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the first fruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
1 Corinthians 15:20-23
Shepherd's Ministry
The criteria for this ministry is one--to have a genuine love for the under shepherd of this flock. For they that preach and teach the word also live by the word. God has no hands but our hands so if the servant-teacher is to flourish and do well, someone must step up to the plate and provide the loving need. Consider this ministry as a way of expressing YOUR LOVE. Sister Bea Spearman for more information.
Singles Ministry
Praise God for a vital ministry to all singles. Sister Deborah McFarland lead this group into bible study, sick visitation and monthly gatherings for fun and worship.

Men or women who can give us any time in this ministry would be appreciated as there are so many people depending upon our ability to provide transportation to and from church. See Deacon Maurice Tucker for more information.

Deacon Martin Beckham, Deacon Jimmie Williams and Sister Deborah Martin provides excellent leadership to our youth department they meet every Saturday before the 3rd and 4th Sunday.
